National Love is Kind Day: A Reminder That Healing Begins with Compassion

Spindrift Massage & Bodywork Therapy | Outer Banks, NC

Each year on July 27, we observe National Love is Kind Day—a day created to honor survivors of domestic abuse and to help all of us reflect on what it truly means to be treated with kindness, both by others and by ourselves.

The message is simple but powerful: love should never hurt. It shouldn’t silence, control, or diminish. Instead, it should be safe, steady, and kind.

This day is an opportunity to pause and ask:
Am I allowing myself to be treated with kindness—in my relationships, in my environment, and in the way I care for myself?

Love, by Nature, Is Kind

When we’ve lived through trauma or unhealthy patterns, it can take time to rebuild our sense of safety.
It can take even longer to believe that we are worthy of respect and gentleness—not only from others, but from ourselves.

Love is kind when it:

  • Respects your boundaries

  • Honors your healing pace

  • Listens more than it fixes

  • Offers safety, not pressure

For many, healing means learning to recognize and accept these qualities as the new standard—not the exception.

Self-Kindness Is a Cornerstone of Recovery

Self-kindness doesn’t mean you have to feel good all the time.
It means creating space for your needs, allowing your body to rest, and learning to speak to yourself without judgment.

This might look like:

  • Taking a break from overextending yourself

  • Speaking gently to your own thoughts

  • Choosing relationships that feel emotionally safe

  • Making time for your physical and emotional recovery

  • Saying no, even when it’s uncomfortable

Healing doesn’t always look impressive. It often looks like small, steady moments of listening to what you need.

A Safe, Supportive Space for Bodywork in the Outer Banks

At Spindrift Massage & Bodywork Therapy, we hold space for that kind of healing. Our massage OBX sessions are rooted in trauma-informed care—designed to meet you exactly where you are, without judgment or pressure.

You’ll never be rushed. You’ll never be expected to “push through” discomfort.
Every session is a collaborative space where your comfort, consent, and preferences lead the way.

Whether you’re seeking relief from physical pain, emotional stress, or simply need a place where you feel seen and supported, we offer massage that honors the whole person—not just the symptoms.

This National Love is Kind Day, take a moment to remember: you deserve to feel safe in your body and in your life.
And if you’re looking for a place to begin or continue that process, we’re here for you.
